Grading Bad Bunny’s Spectacular In-Ring Debut

Bad Bunny has been a fixture on WWE television for months, appearing weekly alongside Damian Priest on the heels of his “Booker T” performance at the 2021 Royal Rumble on January 31, 2021.

Bad Bunny’s presence on WWE television has not had any noticeable impact on television ratings, however his merchandise quickly became one of the hottest-selling items on WWEShop.com. In a recent interview, WWE Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan cited Bad Bunny as one of the artists WWE wanted to work with in order to garner interest in younger viewers.

“So what we’re in the middle of—the bad Bunny thing … that’s obviously tailored towards a young audience,” said Khan.

“We’re in the process now of developing a number of different animated properties, some with the desired demographic of 2 to 6 years old, so the thought is to get kids in young. 

Bad Bunny endeared himself to wrestling fans when he absolutely had have a home run, cutting an impassioned promo on the go-home Raw of WrestleMania 37. The promo added a much-needed poignancy to what had largely been a comedy feud.

Bad Bunny easily had the most spectacular WrestleMania entrance to this point, riding in atop a semi truck and even receiving fireworks to boot. Bad Bunny rubbed his feet before stepping into the ring and even held the tag rope when he tagged in to start the match.

Fans seemed to be behind Bad Bunny as Bad Bunny and Damian Priest got them riled up prior to the match. Bunny connected with an early, and stiff, right hand that connected right on The Miz’s chin. He connected with yet another right hand on the increasingly frustrated (kayfabe) Miz.

Bunny connected with a flurry of punches and a takedown of The Miz before The Miz went on the attack and worked him over. Bunny connected with an armdrag takedown of The Miz as he continued to sell surprise with Bad Bunny’s in-ring skill. Bad Bunny scored a nearfall off an impressive Tequila Sunrise rollup as the crowd continued to get behind him with faint chants of “let’s go Bunny.”

When Miz went on the offensive, Bad Bunny’s selling was very solid. The crowd then came unglued for an extended tilt-a-whirl on The Miz. Bad Bunny scored another nearfall on a sunset flip as he continued to look like an actual wrestler.

Bad Bunny hit a Tornado DDT on The Miz as he continued to tease the hot tag with the crowd fully behind him. Bunny finally made the hot tag to Damian Priest who ran wild on both Miz and Morrison.

Bunny and Priest hit a stereo sitout suplex on Miz and Morrison. After performing a dive, Damian Priest invited Bad Bunny to do the same with the crowd fully behind him. Bunny performed a top-rope dive on Miz and Morrison. Fans continued to chant “Bunny” as he may have been the biggest star on this show.

The match reached a fever pitch when Bad Bunny hit a Canadian Destroyer on John Morrison. This was one of the best celebrity debuts ever.
