Being a new parent is exhausting at the best of times. There are diapers to change, bottles to fill, screaming sobs to quiet down. But beyond all the routine chores that come with parenting, there are the larger social questions of how to raise a kid in a complex, unjust, and ever-changing world. On this episode, Gene Demby and Hari Kondabolu dive into some of those questions: How do you teach your child about the world they’re newly discovering? How do you avoid passing down bad habits and faulty coping mechanisms that you were raised with? And what does it mean to have a child whose experience of the world will necessarily be very different from your own?

This episode originally aired in 2022. The rerun was produced by Courtney Stein and Xavier Lopez.
