‘Yeh jerseys ek company ne banai hain kya?’ Twitterati confused as both South Africa, Pakistan wear similar kits

When two teams have similar jerseys, there are home and away kits to differentiate between the two teams. This is how it is done in Football and this was how it was done in the 2019 Cricket World Cup in the games India-England, South Africa-Pakistan, Pakistan-Bangladesh where the two teams wear the same coloured jerseys.

However, it wasn’t the case in the first ODI between the two teams on Friday as both South Africa and Pakistan wore green. Not just the colour of the two jerseys was similar, the shades of it and the pattern of the two jerseys was almost identical.

While the sleeves and the pants were of a darker shade, the front was of a lighter shade, South Africa’s front was much lighter and it was the only evident difference that one could spot between the kist of the two sides. The two teams will meet in five more games of the six-match limited-overs series. While Pakistan won the first game in a last-ball finish owing to skipper Babar Azam’s century, the hosts South Africa will need to bounce back to avoid the series defeat in the remaining two games of the ODI series.

The lack of difference and the unavoidable similarities couldn’t go past many people including fans, journalists and cricket experts. Many suggested that home and away jersey trend should continue in bilateral series too as both wore the same colour, while many were disappointed to see the kits still getting more identical with the passing day in cricket.

Here are some of the reactions:
