With Her First Release, Rosé Is Already One Of The Most Successful Korean Musicians In Canadian History

To this day, most musicians from South Korea are still incredibly lucky to reach the biggest songs charts in countries like America, the U.K. and Canada, as it remains very difficult for even the most popular acts from the Asian nation to break through in the Western music industry. One placement is a huge win, and two is a historic moment.

Rosé, better known as one of the four vocalists from the K-pop girl group Blackpink, is experiencing one such moment this week in Canada, where she debuts not one, but two hits simultaneously. Such a show of popularity is rare for South Korean musicians in the territory, and with just one project, the singer has already established herself as one of the most successful names in K-pop in Canadian history.

It may be tough to believe, but Rosé is just the fourth South Korean musician to reach the Canadian Hot 100 with more than one song.

This week, Rosé’s single “On The Ground” debuts at No. 35, while the track’s B-side “Gone” launches at No. 77. The two cuts were packed together as a collection the musician titled R.

Looking at all South Korean musical acts, BTS lead the way when it comes to the most Canadian Hot 100 hits. The boy band have now appeared on the all-genre tally of the most-consumed tracks in the country with 28 different songs, including five top 10 smashes and just one leader, “Dynamite.”

BTS remain the only South Korean musical act with at least 20 placements on the Canadian Hot 100, but as of last year, they’re no longer the only name from that part of the world with double-digit hits on the tally. Blackpink has now accrued 11 wins on the most competitive list. Including those singles, Rosé has now racked up 13 successes, a sizable count for any act, let alone one that primarily performs in a language other than English (or French, which is popular in Canada).

Aside from BTS, Blackpink and Rosé, the only other South Korean musician to reach the Canadian Hot 100 more than once is Psy. The K-pop star, who landed the first-ever No. 1 hit by an artist singing in Korean, has thus far landed a trio of smashes on the tally.
