SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Crysis Remastered Trilogy’ Announced, Plus ‘Sludge Life’ and Today’s Other New Releases and Sales

[ad_1]

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for June 2nd, 2021. In today’s article, we’ve got a couple of bits of news about upcoming releases and events. We’ve also got summaries of all of the new releases today, of which there are quite a few by Wednesday standards. We finish things up with the lists of new and expiring sales for you consider. Yes, it’s a pretty normal day around these parts. Nothing wrong with that. Let’s get to it!

News

‘Crysis Remastered Trilogy’ Announced for Switch Release

Crysis Remastered came out a while back on the Switch, and I suppose it must have gone over well because Crytek has announced that Crysis Remastered Trilogy is on its way to the platform this autumn. It will include the first remaster along with Crysis 2 Remastered and Crysis 3 Remastered, as you could probably guess from the title. If you already own the first one, don’t worry about having to double-dip. You’ll be able to buy the other two games separately.

Keep Your Hat On in the Next ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Event

Another week, another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate event. Last week had the 35th Anniversary event, which in hindsight was absolutely meant to commemorate Dragon Quest‘s birthday more so than the others. This week, we’re back to the mundane. It’s a Spirit Board event based on characters that wear hats. Stylish characters, in particular. Defeat them and you’ll get more gold than you normally would. The event kicks off on Friday and runs for the standard three days through the weekend.

New Releases

Sludge Life ($14.99)

This is a very weird game that is mostly about exploring that weirdness to your satisfaction. You’re in a small world rich with mini-stories, neat places to get to, and odd characters to meet. This game was previously available on the Epic Game Store for free, and that was probably an ideal place for it as you’re as likely to be turned off by it as you are to get into it. But I do appreciate stuff like this, even if not every point of it resonates with me. I’ll have a review of this one early next week if you want to know my specific takeaway of it.

Everyday Today’s Menu for Emiya Family ($49.99)

This interesting-looking title comes from the folks at Aniplex. It’s based on the manga spin-off of Fate/Stay Night, and is a blend between a cooking game and a visual novel. Help Saber, Rin, and Sakura to make delicious food and then watch everyone enjoy the meals together. Make specific dishes to complete missions as you make your way through each chapter of the story. If you’re a fan of Today’s Menu for the Emiya Family or Fate/Stay Night, this may be of interest to you. Otherwise, you’re probably better off sticking to the Cook, Serve, Delicious! games.

Wing of Darkness ($29.99)

Enter a world of flying mech shooting battles in Wing of Darkness. Set up your mech and head into battle against an invading force known as the Blankers. Your side, mostly made up of cute young women, are called Frauleins. That probably sounds super-cool in Japanese, but it’s such a plain word in its original language. It would be like if superheroes were just called ‘Dudes’. Ah well. Between the battles, you’ll get cut-scenes that tell the story. It reminds me of games like Omega Boost, but I haven’t had a chance to play it yet so I can’t say too much about it.

Dungeon Escape ($4.99)

Here’s a single-screen platformer where you play as a box with a face trying to avoid other boxes with faces and a wide array of traps as you make your way to the exit. It’s the usual thing, and you’ve seen and played a bunch of games like this one before. But if you want more of that and you’ve got a fiver to burn, this seems to be as good a game as any to do the job. I wish I had more to say about this game, but it really is “generic platformer” as heck.

Find 10 Differences ($5.99)

Oh good, the new Benjamin Kistler game has dropped. Like many of his games, this one is handheld only. You probably know how this goes: there are two pictures that look almost the same, and you need to point out the ten differences. This game has twenty five such pictures, and a three-star system based on a timer. Mistakes will give you a time penalty. I feel like you could probably find a book with these kinds of puzzles for cheaper than this, but maybe not a whole lot cheaper. Not the worst thing Kistler has released, but it doesn’t seem like something I’d pay six bucks for.

Stonefly ($19.99)

Teeny-tiny robot suits, that’s what this is all about. You have your robot suit, and you want to make it better. You venture out, gather materials, come back, upgrade your mech, and head out once more to repeat the loop. There are bugs to battle on the way, so don’t ignore your offensive capabilities. Ultimately you’re trying to recover a lost family heirloom. It’s alright. Sometimes it feels like you’re doing the same things again and again, but that is perhaps the nature of the beast with this kind of thing.

Pony World 3 ($4.99)

This is kind of somewhere between a virtual pet and simulation game. You have to take care of a pony that is clearly legally distinct from those really famous ponies with the toys and the cartoons. Clearly. Build a farm, decorate it, and create products to sell. Play with your pony, train it, and take care of it. You can customize your pony’s look, even adding a cu… er, tattoo for that extra bit of not-authenticity. You can also visit various locations and play some mini-games. Well, it’s a fiver. I could see some kids who are into ponies getting some fun out of it.

Grand Slam Tennis ($3.99)

At least Pix Arts seems to understand that if you’re going to shovel low-effort junk onto the eShop, it needs to be cheap. And this is indeed some low-effort junk as far as tennis games go. On the positive side, there is a local two-player mode that uses a splitscreen. And it has all the most basic features a tennis game should have. There are eight different players to choose from, a training mode, and four tournaments to play. I know there is at least one tennis game on the Switch worse than this, too. And that’s everything positive I have to say about it.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Ubisoft has some its games on sale again, though there’s nothing new under the sun about that, is there? Some excellent discounts on the Choices That Matter series, if you dig choice-based adventure games. There’s quite a bit in the outbox today, but if I have to point at one thing in particular, it’s Hamster’s Arcade Archives sale. The company rarely does sales, and many of the titles are only ever discounted once. For example, Double Dragon II has never been on sale before, and it may never be again. Check those lists and choose wisely, friends.
