Singapore Airlines Launches Carbon-Offset Microsites

Singapore Airlines Group has launched a carbon-offset program that it plans to expand later this year to include its corporate customers, the carrier announced.

Both Singapore Airlines and its low-cost carrier subsidiary Scoot have developed microsites through which travelers can offset emissions from their flights either before or after their journeys. The sites use the BlueHalo tool to calculate offsets for customers, and the group said it has selected “high-quality” projects to benefit from the offsets, including forest protection in Indonesia, solar energy projects in India and providing clean-burning cooking stoves for families in Nepal.

A version of the program for corporate customers will be available in the fourth quarter, according to the group. The group also plans to launch a dedicated microsite for cargo customers in late July and enable travelers to use frequent-flyer points for offsets in the fourth quarter.

Both carriers plan to match all offsets purchased in the first six months of the program, according to the group.
