Sage Hospitality Group has joined the Curator Hotel & Resort Collection as a founding member, Curator announced this week. Sage joins leader Pebblebrook Hotel Trust and six other hotel operators, which founded Curator in November 2020 in an effort to bring together small brands and independent lifestyle hotels “looking to strengthen their performance,” particularly after the pandemic.

In addition to Sage and Pebblebrook, founding members include Benchmark Global Hospitality, Davidson Hotels & Resorts, Noble House Hotels & Resorts, Provenance Hotels, Springboard Hospitality and Viceroy Hotels & Resorts. Sage will add 10 of its more than 50 properties to Curator, including those in Boston, Denver, Nashville and Portland, Ore.

“Together, these companies represent [more than] 130 independent lifestyle hotels and resorts that are expected to join Curator,” said Curator president Jennifer Barnwell in an email. “At this time, 59 of the founding member hotels are officially committed with Curator, and the remaining hotels will be coming on board over the next few months. Additionally, we had our first non-founding member join the collection just a few weeks ago, which brings the total number to 60.”

The idea behind Curator is to drive cost savings for these independent properties through vendor negotiations and executing and managing portfolio-level agreements, among other collective actions. Additionally, members can benefit from “shared business intelligence reporting, insights, and proprietary tools and technology solutions,” according to a company statement.

Curator hopes to grow the collection to 150 members by year-end, then add 50 to 100 members each year thereafter, Barnwell said. “The more members we add to our collection, the more we can reduce costs for everyone,” she added. “Based on our scale, we can affect negotiating power and cost efficiencies that individual hotels just can’t get on their own.”
