Rosé Joins BTS As The Second-Ever Korean Musician To Hit No. 1 On Billboard’s Global Chart

Already a star thanks to her years in the K-pop girl group Blackpink, Rosé has finally struck out on her own, and it’s clear from the warm reception that fans are in favor of the singer producing hits both with her bandmates and as a soloist. In fact, the musician doesn’t just land a big win on her first try, she sees her first single open as the biggest song in the world.

Rosé’s debut solo single “On The Ground” launches at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200, Billboard’s weekly ranking of the most-consumed tracks in the world. The title racked up enough streams and sales in dozens of countries to outpace recent smashes by the likes of Bruno Mars, Olivia Rodrigo and The Weeknd to claim the highest spot on the tally, and by doing so, she’s made history.

The Blackpink singer is just the second musician from South Korea to top the Billboard Global 200, and she’s the first soloist from the nation to do so.

World-dominating boy band BTS became the first musical act from South Korea to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 in the chart’s third week, and they landed the second-ever ruling song with “Dynamite.” That disco-pop tune remains one of the tracks with the most frames spent in charge, and it is somehow still going strong inside the top 10 on the current list.

BTS are also the musical act with the most No. 1s on the Billboard Global 200, as they’ve already racked up three rulers. That’s especially impressive considering the fact that the newly-instated ranking isn’t even a year old.

After the immediate success of “Dynamite,” BTS returned to the summit on the Billboard Global 200 with “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat),” a collaboration with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo. That cut was already a bit hit all around the world, but it wasn’t until the South Korean septet jumped on a remix that it bolted to the top spot.

Less than two months after they collected a second No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200, BTS landed yet another chart-topping debut with “Life Goes On,” which is still the only song performed primarily in Korean to reach the peak spot on the tally.

Blackpink almost became the second musical act from South Korea to make it to No. 1 last year when their single “Lovesick Girls” stalled just one rung shy of running the show. Now, one of the members has gone all the way to the top, while the band itself will have to wait until they have new music to deliver to have a shot at finally earning a No. 1.
