Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s production company Archewell Productions have secured their first Netflix order, Heart Of Invictus, a documentary about the Invictus Games.

The deal comes six months after the pair scored a multi-million dollar deal with the on-demand platform. The piece is set to be directed by Orlando von Einsiedel and produced by Joanna Natasegara.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Archewell Productions team are building an ambitious slate that reflects the values and causes they hold dear. From the moment I met them, it’s been clear that the Invictus Games hold a very special place in their hearts, and I couldn’t be happier that their first series for Netflix will showcase that for the world in a way never seen before,” added Ted Sarandos, Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer, Netflix.

Invictus

The Invictus Games are an international multi-sport event that sees injured, wounded or sick military personnel compete in nine different sports. 17 countries competed in the last games held in 2018.

Prince Harry has been notably linked to the Invictus Games and was a key part in its set up in 2014. Inspired by the Warrior Games in the U.S., the event was pitched to the U.K.’s Ministry of Defence after 4 U.K. service personnel attended the U.S. games.

The documentary will follow a group of service members competing in the games planned for 2022 in The Hague. The 2020 games were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and have now been re-scheduled to begin on May 29, 2022.

“Since the very first Invictus Games back in 2014, we knew that each competitor would contribute in their own exceptional way to a mosaic of resilience, determination, and resolve. This series will give communities around the world a window into the moving and uplifting stories of these competitors on their path to the Netherlands next year.
