The Schumacher name ruled Formula 1, held many records, and if you are a racing enthusiast, you already know that the name is returning to F1. There’s one catch, though. It’s the son of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher, Mick, who will make his debut this season with Haas.
Interestingly, he will be competing against some of his father’s rivals when he lines up for the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix, something he finds “surreal”.
Mick, the reigning Formula 2 champion, says he is “really excited” ahead of his debut.The idea that he will be competing against some who raced with his father, he says is “kind of funny to think about.”
Mick adds it shows that these people have been in the sport for a while and the fact they are still here exemplifies that they have been “obviously successful”.“It’s going to be nice to see how things are going to turn out on track,” he adds, saying,“I haven’t driven with many of them in the test because I was mostly with some other guys.”
Mick said he was driving with Kimi, whom he knew quite well.
Fernando Alonso, the Spaniard and Schumacher Sr’s former rival, too, returns to the sport this season. He last took part in a race in 2018. Besides Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, too, shared a grid with Schumacher Sr.
The 52-year-old former world champion sustained a severe brain injury in 2013 when he was on a skiing trip with his family near Méribel in the French Alps.
According to a report on Express.co.uk, Schumacher Sr fell and hit his head on a rock while crossing an off-piste area between Piste Chamois and Piste Mauduit. Despite all the protective gear, including the helmet, he suffered major injuries and slipped into a coma.
Schumacher Sr is currently with his family at home in Switzerland.
