Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni achieved a special milestone in his side’s second game of their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 campaign against Punjab Kings as he became the first player to play 200 games for Chennai Super Kings across IPL and the now-defunct tournament Champions League T20.

Dhoni, who has been with the franchise since the inception of the IPL in 2008 is the only player who has featured in all the 12 seasons CSK has played. Playing 176 games in the IPL and 24 matches in the CLT20, Dhoni has also played 30 games for the Rising Pune Supergiant in the two seasons in 2016 and 2017 when CSK were facing suspension.

Asked about how he felt after achieving the milestone, Dhoni said, “Makes me feel very old! It has been a very long journey. 2008 we started and now looking at the span I can say it’s not only India, we have played almost everywhere, right from South Africa to Dubai to now back home and all the conditions and the ways in the sense we never thought Mumbai will be our home at some point of time. So, it has been a very interesting journey.”

Dhoni’s 200th game for the men in yellow, couldn’t have been more perfect as they restricted Punjab Kings to a smallish total of 106 at the Wankhede Stadium and chased it down pretty comfortably in the end, with 26 balls to spare by six wickets.
