Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan regained his touch in the ODI series after missing out in the T20I series after being dropped since the second game against England. The left-hander was the third highest run-getter in the 50-over format scoring 169 runs in the three games at an average of 56.33, with the highest score of 98 in the first game.

After not being the first-choice opener in the shortest format, Dhawan reiterated why he is still the best in the ODIs, opening for India. After the third ODI which India won and the series along with it, Dhawan was asked by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar about how it felt for him to be dropped in the T20I series and how he found his groove in the ODI series.

Dhawan came up with a witty response saying, “I was always in the groove, it’s just that I wasn’t playing.”

“Once I got the chance I made the most of it. I was playing domestic cricket – Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare – and that was match practice for me. I’m glad I played those tournaments. The wicket was very good, especially the last two matches and I enjoy playing on such bouncy tracks,” he said.

Dhawan, who was not part of the Indian Test side led Delhi in the domestic tournaments and had a few good scores to his name, which was a great dress rehearsal for the 35-year old for the 8-match limited-overs leg of the England series.
