Flight Centre Travel Group has named Michelle Degenhardt, a longtime employee with the group, as its first global sustainability officer, the company announced.

In the newly created role, Degenhardt will work with Flight Centre’s leadership team, customers—including corporate customers of its travel management company, FCM—suppliers and stakeholders to develop and carry out initiatives related to Flight Centre’s sustainability goals. She reports to Flight Centre global head of risk and sustainability Brett Anderson.

Degenhardt has been with Flight Centre for 17 years, most recently as its culture and employee engagement leader. She already has worked with sustainability initiatives at the company, such as helping to develop its Responsible Travel charter and to create a recycling and waste reduction program for its head office.

FCM has been pushing to make sustainability a “core pillar” of its offerings to corporate customers, including a carbon offsetting program launched last year.
