Despite the fact that it’s already spent more than half a year on the Hot 100, BTS’s “Dynamite” isn’t just holding on, it’s actually gaining ground in what has turned out to be a very important week for the track. The tune is still present on the just-refreshed singles chart, and by finding space on the list once again, the catchy cut has helped the band behind the global phenomenon make history among their countrymen.

“Dynamite” has now lived on the Hot 100 for 31 weeks, which now stands as the new record for the most frames spent on the tally for a song by a South Korean musical act of any kind.

Last week, the septet’s biggest smash yet tied Psy’s “Gangnam Style” as the longest-charting single by a South Korean musical act in Hot 100 history, as both had racked up 30 frames on the roster. Now, BTS has improved their standing and passed the pioneering K-pop musician for good.

This week, “Dynamite” actually improves from the previous frame, which makes it two turns in a row that the track has climbed the ranking. This time around, the disco-pop composition lifts from No. 34 to No. 26, a noticeable jump for a tune which has already spent more than its fair share of time in the spotlight.

“Dynamite” continues to step up on the Hot 100 thanks in large part to significant increases in sales in the U.S. This frame, the track earns a seventeenth stay at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, tying Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” for the all-time record for most stays atop that list.

BTS became the first South Korean musical act to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 thanks to “Dynamite,” which didn’t just reach the chart’s penthouse, it debuted atop the tally during the chart dated September 5. It would rack up three nonconsecutive turns in the driver’s seat, and it was to be one of three leaders from the beloved boy band in 2020 alone.

“Dynamite” is likely to continue its historic run for at least another week or two, and it could spend another month on the Hot 100. Billboard has a rule that will remove the track should it dip below No. 50 at any point, based on its past success, so its end may not be too far in the future at this point.
