BTS’s music video for their smash single “Dynamite” has been having quite the week on YouTube, as it seems to make history or break some new record every few days…and now it’s accomplished another major feat on the Google
“Dynamite” has now been liked by 27 million people, and with a few thousand more thumbs-ups on the site, the clip has advanced once more on the list of the videos which have accrued the most love.
Just a few days ago, “Dynamite” rose to 26 million likes on YouTube, at which time it tied with two other beloved visuals as the third-most-liked video ever. At the time, the disco-pop tune matched both Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” and Pinkfong’s “Baby Shark,” which had both also managed to be liked by 26 million accounts. Now, those two treatments are steady with the same number, while BTS’s biggest hit has pushed forward, which means that both global hits have been demoted and are tied with one another as the fourth-most-liked uploads on the platform.
Leading the way on the list of the music videos with the most likes ever is Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” which has been liked 43 million times. Steady in second place, but behind the champion by 10 million thumbs-ups, is Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again,” with 33 million likes.
BTS’s viral sensation also hit one billion views on YouTube just two days ago.
“Dynamite” was a huge hit from the moment it was released last August. The visual broke many records upon its unveiling, with three million people tuning in live to watch its debut. The colorful clip reached 10 million views faster than any other post in history, hitting that mark in just 20 minutes. In its first 24 hours on YouTube, the treatment was watched just over 100 million times, which was highlighted by many as a new record as well.
All the views the “Dynamite” video earned right out of the gate helped the all-English single debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100, not only giving BTS their first champion on the competitive tally, but making them the first act from South Korea to rule over the list.
It’s hard to say if either “Shape of You” or “Baby Shark” will improve again anytime soon, as YouTube only shows the number of likes right below any video in round numbers, so both tracks appear to only have 26 million likes. It could be only a matter of days before one of them advances to 27 million endorsements, or it might be months, or even years. By that point, it’s likely that “Dynamite” will have surged forward once again, as fans are liking it at an impressive rate.
