Multiple people were shot late on Thursday night at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis and the shooter killed himself, police announced early on Friday but did not disclose any other fatalities in an incident that was described as a “mass casualty” situation in police dispatches.
The shooting took place late on Thursday night at a FedEx facility near the Indianapolis International Airport.
According to a local CW Network affiliate, unconfirmed reports suggest at least five people were killed in the incident.
A spokesperson for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said multiple people had injuries consistent with gunshot wounds but did not disclose the number of people injured or any fatalities immediately “out of respect to the victims’ families.”
The police said chaplains are present at a nearby location to assist the victims’ families.
In a statement reported by CNN, FedEx said it was aware of the tragic shooting in its Indianapolis facility and added: “Safety is our top priority, and our thoughts are with all those who are affected. We are working to gather more information and are cooperating with investigating authorities.”
