Ariana Grande Ties Lady Gaga For The Fifth-Most No. 1s On The Sales Chart Among Women

Ariana Grande and The Weeknd both collect their sixth No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 together this week, as their joint single “Save Your Tears” steps up a few spots to the peak position. The lift is thanks to a new remix of the cut, which turns it from a solo outing to a duet with Grande now on board.

That new take was a strong streamer and performed well at radio, but its sales that largely helped it push to the Hot 100’s summit, and the updated version also rockets to No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, the weekly ranking of the bestselling titles in the country. With one more leader to her credit, Grande now ranks among the most successful women in the ranking’s history, and she’s tied one of the most powerful figures in pop in the process.

“Save Your Tears” is Grande’s eighth No. 1 hit on the Digital Song Sales chart, which is enough to tie her with Lady Gaga. The women are now on the same level as one another, tied for the fifth-most champions on that specific tally among women.

Leading the way among female acts (all artists, actually) when looking at those who have hit No. 1 most often on the Digital Song Sales chart is Taylor Swift. Between her pop, country and alternative output, the superstar has now topped the tally with 22 different cuts, and that sum is climbing all the time.

Steady in second place among women with 14 No. 1 hits is Rihanna, while Katy Perry has thus far charted 11 winners. Currently, Beyoncé is just one chart-topper ahead of both Lady Gaga and Grande, so it will be interesting to see whether one of those two pop stars can match her showing before she collects her tenth ruler (which will surely happen someday).

Grande has topped the tally on her own with her singles “7 Rings,” “Thank U, Next” and “No Tears Left to Cry,” as well as with collaborative tunes “Bang Bang” with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj, “Stuck With U” with Justin Bieber, “Problem” with Iggy Azalea and even “Rain on Me” with Gaga, with whom she is now tied.
